Another fun part of the guitar hobby is the vast array of guitar gear and accessories available.
If you’ve been playing the guitar for any time at all, you’ve probably already collected different types of picks (plectrums), straps, pedals or other effects hardware, you may have tried different strings and so on.
The variety is both a good thing and a bad thing – how do you decide what’s best for you and how to narrow down the options.
You can spend as much or as little as you want, the important thing is to buy things that you will use and that enhance your enjoyment of playing the guitar.
This area of the hobby is vast, but over time I will cover aspects like:
- Guitar strings – gauges and types;
- Picks (plectrums) – the different types and the pros/cons;
- Guitar straps;
- Guitar hardware;
- Effects pedals and boxes;
- Amplifiers – big and small;
- Buying and selling guitars.
I will post regular articles on various aspects of the enormous world of gear and accessories that will hopefully narrow things down a little and help you make informed choices. It may even introduce you to things that you weren’t aware existed!
As always, you choose what and when to investigate or buy, you don’t need to do everything at once, but we all like getting new toys don’t we?
I hope you find some useful information – please do remember that articles are aimed at the full spectrum of hobby guitarists, so you may find that you already know some things but not others.
Check back regularly for new content and use the posting categories drop down for other relevant posts.
Please feel free to drop me an email if you would like me to post on a particular aspect of gear and accessories not already covered and I’ll put it on the list for future articles.
